Hi there! Thank you for visiting us. The SHE DID THAT_FOOD culinary brand was created because of our founder’s fascination with food systems and the power of food! It is our greatest joy to inspire and empower Black women, teens, and girls on their well-being journey, particularly in the area of plant-based nutrition, cooking, and eating.
The SHE DID THAT_FOOD culinary brand, is a subsidiary of LLBJ Culinary and Wellness Enterprises LLC. Both were created in 2017 by Dr. Fiona B. Lewis, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and Plant-Based Chef.
Our food philosophy is summarized in these 6 pillars. Food is:
Love made visible
Family and community
Fun and celebratory
Culture and history
Politics and power
This perspective of food has been the guide for all our activities. Through our products and services, we seek to connect with our consumers around these six pillars. The products and services offered through the SHE DID THAT_FOOD brand center around plant-based nutrition education, skill-building, facilitating, and supporting plant-based eating in creative, and innovative ways (i.e. entertainment and health-focused cooking classes, workshops, seminars, meal preparation, and meal planning services, flavoring).
Meet Dr. Fiona Lewis
The Girl Who Decided to Go for It!
If you ask my family, friends, and colleagues for a phrase that accurately captures my essence, one phrase would be “the girl who decided to go for it.” I can’t quite remember when I decided that I would commit myself to a journey of authenticity. However, I’m glad I did because the journey has led me to unexpectedly beautiful places, people, and experiences! I’ve always had a heart for health and service which grew even stronger after seeing several of my maternal aunts and uncles experience poor quality of life and die from complications related to preventable illnesses such as high blood pressure, type two diabetes, stroke, heart diseases, and excess body weight. These experiences strengthened my dedication and determination to help others prevent, stop, and reverse these illnesses through lifestyle modification, as well as addressing the social determinants of health when possible.
I am also the girl who keeps going for it! As a result, I’ve earned a Doctorate in Public Health from Loma Linda University (2013) and a Master of Science in Nutrition & Wellness from Andrews University (2007). In 2007, I also became a nationally credentialed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Since 2007, I have had the honor of serving in hospitals and home care settings offering nutrition counseling and coaching, creating and implementing nutrition and wellness programs, teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, training future Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, coordinating academic nutrition and health promotion programs, as well as assisting with the implementation of a lifestyle medicine curriculum for medical residents. Not bad for a Bronx girl!
Then there was a shift in 2016 when I sensed the call of God to leave my career and lean in more on my journey of authenticity. This shift included an awakening and passion for entrepreneurship, cooking, creating a legacy of financial independence for myself, family, and community. In 2017 I went for it again, quit my job, started my company and brand sewing, and selling aprons. I also completed the professional plant-based chef training program at the Natural Gourmet Institute a few weeks after my 40th birthday! Sensing God’s leadership again I went for it several more times, in 2018 I moved to the Jackson, MS area to open a cooking studio to empower others to thrive through plant-based cooking, eating, and lifestyle modification. One of my greatest joys is to connect with individuals and groups around food and cooking. It is energizing for me to create opportunities for people to open up to the experience of the diverse colors, flavors, textures, and endless possibilities of food.
In 2020, instead of allowing the pandemic to derail my cooking studio plans, I went for it again and launched free cooking demos online, and two products to empower others to embrace plant-based cooking and eating. The Flavor In A Box seasoning collection was launched to help plant-based and non-plant-based eaters prepare yummy plant-forward meals and snacks. I also launched a plant-based meal planner to provide others with an affordable tool for preventing and reversing lifestyle-related illnesses through plant-based eating. While I love working with all people, I love supporting people from communities of color since we are disproportionately affected by these illnesses. So that’s me, the girl who keeps going for it, by the way, “it” is all that God invites me to become for His glory, especially serving others!
